1. Visual Examination
At the very beginning, inspectors meticulously check the appearance of each lock. They look for any scratches, dents, or blemishes on the lock body, ensuring the surface is smooth and intact. The plating quality is also under scrutiny, making certain that the color is uniform and free from peeling or fading, which not only affects the aesthetics but may also hint at potential durability issues.
2. Functional Testing
The key-operated mechanism is a crucial part to test. Workers insert the key into the lock cylinder multiple times, smoothly turning it to check if the bolt can extend and retract properly without any jamming or abnormal resistance. For combination locks, they input the preset codes accurately to verify that the unlocking process functions flawlessly. Additionally, the latch and deadbolt’s operation is examined to confirm they can securely engage and disengage as designed, providing reliable locking and unlocking performance.
3. Durability Assessment
To simulate real usage scenarios, samples of locks are put through repeated opening and closing cycles in a specialized testing apparatus. This helps evaluate the wear resistance of the internal components like pins, springs, and gears. The locks are also exposed to various environmental conditions such as humidity, temperature changes, and even simulated corrosive atmospheres in a climate chamber to test their resistance to rust and degradation over time, ensuring they can maintain good performance in different circumstances.
4. Component Integrity Check
The factory disassembles a certain percentage of locks randomly to inspect the integrity of each component inside. The quality of the lock cylinder, made of high-strength materials, is verified for its hardness and precision machining. Springs are checked for their elasticity and whether they meet the required tension specifications. The connection and assembly of all parts are examined to ensure there are no loose fittings or potential weak points that could lead to malfunction during long-term use.
